Rain ChainPhilosophy

Our design interventions are not an attempt to mimic nature, but rather, we intend to initiate a meaningful dialogue between proposed elements and the existing landscape. We design landscapes that are complimentary of architecture and respectful of environmental context. Rooted in a deep conviction to capture the ‘spirit’ of a site, our designs are often visceral and intuitive, with the goal of creating environments that are elegant, well-crafted, and enduring.

At Cowles Studio we value an engaging and collaborative relationship with our clients, architects, and builders. Because each client and site is unique, we like to challenge assumptions, ask focused questions, and listen intently. Together , these interactions assist us in developing a comprehensive vision for your property, providing the essential foundation for a purposeful transformation of the designed landscape. Integral to our approach is an iterative process of conceptualization and refinement that distills a landscape to an aesthetic of simplicity, and clarity. We appreciate the opportunity to engage with others who share our enthusiasm, and we welcome the opportunity to work with you on your next project.
